VISUAL IDENTITY
The Bargate Archive is a is a visual identity with the purpose of promoting the history of Southampton through strong branding elements.

ILLUSTRATION
I created 6 unique gradient illustrations using the brand colours. Each illustration is a symbol for the 6 locations promoted by the identity (Bargate, Red Lion Pub, Tudor House, Civic Centre, St Mary's Church and Cenotaph memorial, which are all real locations in Southampton). I drew inspiration from thermal heat imagery, which connects key themes of the brand together. The key theme being the expansion of knowledge, and the phenomenon of thermal expansion.
TYPOGRAPHY
I kept the posters bold and simple, letting the typography do the storytelling. I used a decorative black letter font for the capital letters for the names of each of the locations, and used a delicate serif font for the rest of the letters to create contrast. I wanted the brand typography to feel fresh and new, but referencing the historic roots of the identity hence the use of the decorative black letter font.
